There are significant differences between a medical spa (med spa) and day spa. These differences can really affect the type of treatment and outcome you will receive. Therefore, it’s important for you to understand how they’re different and which one is best for your needs.
Before we get into the major differences, it’s fair to assume that no matter what type of spa it is, the majority of spas offer a relaxing and comfortable environment. At Alazzo Med Spa, we aim to provide the same atmosphere. We have an inviting and relaxing environment to accommodate all of our clients. We’ve even placed oversized beds and flat screen TV’s in each of our rooms to accommodate men.
2 Major Differences
- Staff
At a med spa, the staff providing services will typically consist of Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses. Often times, each nurse has a particular area of expertise including treatments such as anti-aging treatments, laser corrective procedures, advanced medical skin care and non-surgical medical procedures.
The staff at day spas typically consists of Massage Therapists, Aestheticians, Hair Stylists, Nail Artists and Makeup Artists. While they all are trained and educated to perform specific services, they are not licensed medical professionals.
- Services
Med Spas perform services that day spas are not licensed to perform. Some services include injectable treatment, laser hair removal, body contouring, Intense Pulse Light (IPL) therapy and vein therapy. To see what services we offer at Alazzo Med Spa, please visit our website.
Med Spas do not offer services like full body massages, manicures and pedicures. While you may have a neck massage during MicroResurfacing, the massage is not the primary focus.
It’s important to understand the differences in qualifications and services provided. Med spas offer more customizable treatments that cater to your specific needs and are often corrective, and even preventative, procedures. Treatments have to be performed and overseen by a licensed medical professional and the products being used during treatments are medical grade.
