Age can start to change the way your skin looks as early as your 30th birthday and unfortunately you can’t control some things that contribute to aging skin like genetics. However, you can control your habits, both bad and good, which have a great influence on how fast we age. While we cannot prevent aging all together, we can prevent looking another year older with these two anti-aging treatments.
- Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Therapy
IPL systems work on similar principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells. IPL is different than lasers in that there are different wavelengths of light, as oppose to one, in each pulse. The light energy of each pulse is converted to heat energy which damages the targeted area. IPL therapy targets areas in the dermis while not affecting the top layer of skin, the epidermis. The treatment treats early aging lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, age spots and more.
Micro-needling creates micro channels (tiny holes) in the epidermis (shown in the image below) of the skin with very small needles. The treatment stimulates the skin’s natural ability to heal itself producing collagen and elastin in the process. Collagen gives your skin strength while elastin enables your skin to stretch and bounce back. The repair process begins immediately as the micro channels close very quickly and the healing response begins. The process results in a thicker dermis (shown in the image below) giving you younger looking skin.
Micro-needling not only gives you longer looking skin overall, it also helps improve the appearance of pigmentation, stretch marks, scars, wrinkles and fine lines.
