Botox Vs Fillers: 2 Differences of These Skin Care Injectables

Many people are looking for a product that will help them with their facial lines and wrinkles, but aren’t exactly sure what to get.  Typically, Botox™ or fillers are used for men and women, but they are not used to achieve the same skin results. It’s important to know the differences between these two injectable skin care products. Here’s the Botox™ vs fillers lowdown.

What they are and how they work

Botox™ smoothes and relaxes muscle, resulting in ageless skin. When you squint, your muscles contract, creating a wrinkle of the skin.  As you continue to do this repeatedly, your skin will consistently have these lines whether you are squinting or not, because it loses it’s elasticity over time.  Since Botox™ relaxes the muscle, these lines no longer occur. This product works on the cause, preventing more skin damage.  There is another product, just like Botox™, that is frequently used called Xeomin™.  The only difference between the two is one molecule in the structure.

Filler on the other hand, does not relax your muscle but fills your fine lines and wrinkles instead.  There are two types of filler that we use here at Alazzo Med Spa.  One is Radiesse™, which is made up of calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in gel. These cause your body to produce it’s own collagen in the skin. The other type is Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a natural product in the body that is used to fill the lines and wrinkles. These products work on the skin level to repair skin, but not to prevent more skin damage.

The injection site

Whereas fillers are injected underneath the surface of the skin, above the muscle, Botox™ is injected into directly into the muscle.  Additionally, Botox™ is used above the nose to treat areas such as the “number 11’s”, the lines between your eyebrows.  Fillers are used below the eyes to fill the lines around the mouth, the lines under the nose, and marionette lines around the lips. They can also be used to fill the cheeks.

So there you have it, the 2 main differences of Botox™ and injectable fillers to help you determine which is best for you.  Regardless of what you decide to use, make sure that you are having these products administered by a professional and knowledgeable staff like those at Alazzo Med Spa.  We know exactly where to inject each product for the best and most desired results.  If you would like to learn more about Botox™ and fillers, visit our website to make an appointment or give us a call at 301.810.5740.
