5 Things to Know About Wrinkles

Whether you’re in your thirties or seventies, you’ve likely given wrinkles some thought. Don’t let those fine lines make you feel defeated! Arm yourself with knowledge and make decisions for your skin with confidence. Here are five things to know about wrinkles:

What causes wrinkles?

There are a variety of factors that cause wrinkles. The most common cause is aging. Sun exposure and smoking are other major factors in skin damage. Repeated facial expressions also cause wrinkles, because over time your skin loses elasticity. Grooves form underneath the skin, such as crow’s feet (wrinkles around the corner of the eyes) and frown lines (wrinkles found in between eyebrows). One way to combat those persistent lines is to use an injectable.

Injectables

Botox is a treatment that involves an injection into the skin to relax the muscle so you get a smooth and soft effect.  It can help with crows feet, forehead lines, and deep creases between your eyebrows. Results are noticeable within 7-10 days and last for 3-6 months. There are many other injectables such as Xeomin and Dysport that treat wrinkles around the eyes and forehead as well. If your wrinkles are around your mouth, you may want to consider Restylane or Juvederm. At Alazzo, we will help you determine the best injectable for you depending on the area you need to be treated and your desired results. No matter what injectable you get, remember to wear sunscreen to keep wrinkles from re-forming!

Micro-Needling

If you’re not sure an injectable is right for you, micro-needling is worth considering. Microneedling can be used for all ages and has a short recovery period. This procedure aims to tighten, lift and rejuvenate skin through tiny punctures delivered by a hand-held device. Those tiny punctures stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin, causing the body to react by re-growing and repairing skin in response.

Collagen

Collagen is the protein in our bodies responsible for skin elasticity. It also supports joint and bone health. Studies show that collagen supplements aids skin health through boosting skin moisture and elasticity and therefore reducing wrinkles. A common supplement is Skinade, a drink that helps boost collagen.

At-home wrinkle care

There are many things you can do to keep wrinkles at bay.

  1. Limit your exposure to UV rays by staying indoors during peak sun hours. When you do go outside, wear protective clothing and be diligent with wearing sunscreen.
  2. Eat foods rich in nutrients that boost healthy skin, such as eggs, fish, nuts, carrots, leafy greens, oranges, and strawberries.
  3. Meet with a professional to discuss a skincare regimen that will help your skin, specifically.
  4. Prioritize quality sleep! While we sleep, our body is hard at work repairing cell damage that has occurred during the day. Poor sleep slows down cell reproduction, and can cause our complexion to look dull, break out, or — you guessed it — cause wrinkles.

While you may not be able to control the aging process, use your newfound knowledge to be proactive about keeping your skin youthful in appearance!
