Frequently Asked Questions
A: A near-infrared laser light is emitted from the system. A hand piece pulses the light on the surface of the skin penetrating a few millimeters. Laser light is an energy that is converted to heat and is attracted to melanin or color. The color of the hair follicle absorbs the lasers light or energy and pulls it down to the root of the hair follicle cutting off the blood supply that allows the hair to grow. At any given time approximately 20% of your hair is actively growing and attached to the root vulnerable to the lasers energy. This is the philosophy behind multiple treatments to remove unwanted hair. The right combination of wavelength, energy and pulse duration must be used to destroy not just damage unwanted hair, a common miss-step in the industry. An experienced practitioner is mandatory to achieve desired results when it comes to laser hair removal and permanent reduction of unwanted hair.
A: The body is an amazing being that can always grow or generate a new hair. Hormones and other conditions, such as hyperthyroidism or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), can cause excessive hair growth. The FDA does not approve the claim of permanent hair removal. They however do approve equipment for permanent hair reduction which is defined as an 80% reduction of hair. All of the equipment used at Alazzo Med Spa for hair removal is FDA approved for permanent hair reduction.
A: Laser hair removal treats
- Unwanted hair
- Folliculitis resulting from trapped hair
- Hyperpigmentation from shaving unwanted hair
- Pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps)
- Five 0’clock shadow from hair follicles seen under skin
A: In the State of Maryland, a doctor, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and a nurse can be approved to perform laser hair removal with the later two under direct supervision. Here at Alazzo Med Spa, your treatment will be performed by a nurse or a nurse practitioner specifically trained in the safety and standards of our lasers and approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Results are dependent on direct knowledge and understanding of laser hair removal which at Alazzo Med Spa, our experienced, qualified staff will give you the attention you deserve while maximizing your laser hair removal outcome.
A: Yes, our lasers are very safe and with multiple wavelengths, our lasers are safe for all skin types. Negative, long term health complications have not been identified or associated with laser hair removal. The laser light is non-ionizing meaning it does not cause radiation like an x-ray does.
A: The length of time to perform a treatment is dependent on the size of the area to be treated. A treatment can be as short as 15 minutes or take up to an hour to perform. Individual attention is given at each treatment to ensure your comfort. We don’t feel the need to rush so ample time is built into each treatment to focus on your needs.
A: Post laser lotion is recommended. Redness or a slight irritation may last for a few hours to a few days dependent on the texture and amount of hair in the treatment area. Normal activity and use of products may be resumed immediately.
A: Results are typically noted after your first treatment. In about 7-10 days after your procedure the hair in the treated area will shed resulting in a “honeymoon” phase where you experience limited hair growth. The destroyed hairs will not return but other hairs entering into the growth phase start to show about the time for you to return for your next treatment; every 4 weeks for the face, every 6 weeks for the mid body and every 8 weeks for the legs. Not all clients react the same to Laser Hair Removal, if you have a question about your experience please give us a call.
A: No. The laser “sees” the hair follicle below the skin. We recommend that you shave the area within 24 hours of your procedure.
A: Yes… with an explanation. The lasers used in laser hair removal are attracted to melanin or color and lack the ability to differentiate between hair and skin. If there is an increased amount of melanin in the skin, this includes spray tans, the laser could easily be attracted to the skin resulting in an adverse or unwanted result. To compensate for the increased amount of melanin in the skin your provider would adjust the laser settings. This may result in a less aggressive treatment and may add to the number of treatments necessary to gain optimal results. To obtain maximum results in the most efficient manner we recommend you remain the same skin tone as unexposed areas.
A: Because everyone reacts differently to laser hair removal, maintenance varies for everyone. The great news is that at Alazzo Med Spa, once you have completed your package, we offer a lifetime maintenance program that is $25 for every 15 minutes of treatment!
