Don’t Fall for Fads

There are several options available today to treat just about any concern we have with our body but how many of them treat the root of the issue versus being a temporary fix?  In this blog, we’ll be discussing two more common concerns and the treatment that best treats the root of them.  After all, why put out money hand over fist when you are not treating the root, but simply masking it with a “quick fix”?

Unwanted Body Hair

It seems that we struggle with removing unwanted body hair daily. Men shave their faces just about every morning. Women must pay close attention to their legs and underarms, especially during swimsuit season, and sometimes even their chin. There are options for managing hair removal, but how many of them are addressing the regrowth of hair?

  1. Razors – There are different types of razors; wet, dry or electric and they work in different ways. However, the results are the same. Hair grows back in a matter of a day or two. Razors simply lift the hair a bit from under the surface of the skin and cut it. This leaves the root beneath the surface still growing. The result is in a day or so, you need to shave again to achieve the smooth skin you desire.
  2. Wax – Hot wax (hopefully not so hot that it burns you) is applied to the skin. Cloth strips are used to pull the wax off in the opposite direction of hair growth. This rips the hairs out and gives smooth skin for a couple of weeks. While this lasts longer than shaving, it can be very painful and isn’t good for every part of the body. Waxing is recommended for the upper lip and eyebrow areas only.
  3. Depilatory – Have you ever heard of the cream that uses a chemical to “dissolve” hair? Really, it’s a horrible smelling cream that essentially chemically burns the hair. Do not use a depilatory for all areas of the body. You can use it for the bikini area, armpit or upper lip. The depilatory can last a few days to a week.
  4. Laser hair removal – According to Gillette, this is the “hair removal method that gets the job done. For real!” Laser hair removal uses an intense heat from a laser to target the melanin found in hair follicles. This prevents the hair from growing. You can use laser hair removal on just about the entire body. Depending on your body and how your hair grows, depends on how many treatments you may need. This is the most permanent hair removal method available and addresses the root of the issue at hand – hair re-growth.

Abnormal Hormone Levels

As we age, our bodies change and our hormones change, too. For women, there are several options for hormone replacement. Mayo Clinic explains that estrogen comes in pills, patches, gels, creams, and sprays. Unfortunately, these hormones are not something naturally occurring in the body and are made from horse urine and are chemically-steroidal.

Men have options for hormone replacement as well. WebMD tells us about the skin patches, gels and mouth patches available for testosterone replacement. However, there are many drawbacks to the different types of hormone therapy for men. Whether it be tenderness at the application site, inconsistent levels, frequent injections or gum and mouth pain. More information about drawbacks, from a Harvard expert, is available for your review.

When you are ready to look at hormone replacement therapy, we recommend that you consider Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BIHRT). With BIHRT, we provide an adequate supply of a deficient hormone in a form that is molecularly identical to that which your body produces, restoring your body’s normal healthy physiological effects. We are getting to the root of the issue and correcting it in a way that is natural to your body. We use T-pellets to deliver a slow steady release of hormones into the bloodstream. This allows your body to receive a constant level of hormones that are identical to our own chemical makeup. Depending on your body, we can keep you level for up to 4 months at a time. The application is simple and painless. We trust that you will love the new you and getting back to feeling like yourself while addressing the root of your abnormal hormone levels..
